The Celebration Ceremony on 29 November 2025 was a memorable gathering held at Loke Yew Hall, with over 150 guests joining us to commemorate this special milestone. We would like to express our gratitude to Prof. Peng GONG, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Development), and the Dean of the Science Faculty, Prof. Qiang ZHOU, for serving as our Guests of Honour. We also thank Associate Dean Prof. Xuechen LI, and Associate Dean Prof. Ho Yu AU YEUNG for their presence and support. Additionally, we are grateful to the 17 CAS academicians, Interim Head Prof. Zhonghui Liu, Chair Professor Guochun Zhao, and Chair Professor Nicolas Dauphas who joined us for this special occasion, which further enhanced the spirit of academic excellence and collaboration.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Prof. Zhonghui Liu. This was followed by speeches from Prof. Peng Gong and Prof. Qiang Zhou, who shared their thoughts on the department’s achievements and future prospects. Prof. Guochun Zhao delivered a speech representing the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, and Dr. Gavin Chan, Chairman of the HKU Earth Sciences Alumni Association, spoke on behalf of the alumni. The ceremony concluded with guests joining on stage to break balloons, marking the official opening and cutting a special cake celebrating the milestone.

To commemorate the occasion, the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences also prepared gift bags for all guests, which included a booklet highlighting our 30-year journey and an umbrella.
